People can change. But it is extremely difficult. It takes vigilance over our thoughts. It takes impulse control. It takes thoughtfulness and mindfulness. It takes practice and persistence. It takes consistency. It takes a commitment to rejecting the negative influences of our inner critic and the reactions of others who fear our changing will distance us from them. Above all else, it takes motivation. You’ve got to really want to change if you’re going to be able to do all the other things that are necessary. Change is growth. Change is self-esteem. Change is usually happiness and success.
